The Team
The Cumulative Effects Framework (CEF) is an established team with more than a decade of experience supporting natural resource management across British Columbia. The team is made up of three closely connected groups: the Values team, which leads assessment design; the GIS team, which conducts assessments and publishes data; and the Policy and Guidance team, which develops tools to help others interpret and apply this information. Together, they work with a wide range of professionals across the natural resource sector to produce clear, consistent assessments that support evidence‑based decisions. The CEF is a collaborative, supportive, and diverse group of experts who value innovation, shared learning, and creating high‑quality products that make a meaningful difference for communities and ecosystems in B.C.
The Role
The Cumulative Effects Data Analyst supports the Cumulative Effects Framework by leading spatial and statistical analysis, developing innovative modelling approaches, and helping staff work through complex data projects. In this role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts to prepare and share high‑quality data that informs decisions across the province. This position would mainly be working with the wildlife values (moose and grizzly bear). This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, creativity, and continuous learning, and who wants to use their analytical skills to support evidence‑based stewardship of B.C.’s lands and waters.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related Experience must include:
- Experience analyzing natural resource data to assess natural and anthropogenic processes that affect terrestrial ecosystems in British Columbia.
- Experience working with large spatial datasets and completing spatial analysis in vector and/or raster format.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Advanced scripting experience, including spatial analysis, in Python and/or R.
- Experience developing and applying quantitative models for wildlife ecology, such as resource selection functions, Bayesian modelling, or related approaches.
- Experience using remote sensing data in ecological analyses.
- Experience working with wildlife monitoring datasets (e.g. survey, telemetry, camera trap).
- Experience summarizing and displaying results of technical analyses as well as writing technical documents such as guidelines, protocols, or statistical reports in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
- Experience using GitHub or other version control systems.

About this Position:
