Job Overview
Reporting to a Section Head, the Senior Authorizations Specialist is accountable for making natural resource authorizations decisions and recommendations on complex applications or against complex legislation and regulations.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in a natural resource management field and two (2) years of related experience; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management field and three (3) years of related experience; OR
- Diploma in a natural resource management field and four (4) years of related experience; OR
- Certificate or coursework in a natural resource management field and five (5) years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related Experience may include:
- Experience in negotiating and consulting with relevant parties in natural resource management.
- Experience (field/office) working in resource management.
- Experience in supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
Preference may be given to those with:
- Experience working with the Land Act or Fish and Seafood Act, and associated regulations.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC driver’s licence.
- Must meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

About this Position:
There are currently three (3) opportunities available: one (1) permanent, full time position is available in the Coast Area (Campbell River, Courtenay, Daajing Giids, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Port McNeill, Powell River, Squamish, Surrey, Victoria) due to required site inspections on the coast; two (2) temporary (one 18 months, one over 7 months), full time positions are also available and can be based in any location with access to a Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship office.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; each position may be able to work two (2) or more days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
