The Team
The Kelowna Court Administration Services team supports the effective operation of Provincial and Supreme Court proceedings. Registry staff, court clerks, accounting professionals, and justice system partners work together to manage financial processes, court records, exhibits, and administrative services accurately and securely. The team is committed to maintaining the integrity of court operations while providing professional service to the Judiciary, legal professionals, and the public. This fast-paced environment requires attention to detail and adherence to legislative, policy, and court standards.
The Role
Reporting within Court Administration Services, the Registry Technician/Accounting Supervisor oversees daily financial operations, supervises accounting and administrative staff, and ensures compliance with financial controls, policies, and procedures. The role manages court revenues, trust accounts, receivables, transcripts, interpreter services, and exhibit control while safeguarding court assets and records. As a delegated Deputy District Registrar and Deputy Registrar, the position reviews and processes court documents and applications, exercising delegated decision-making authority under applicable legislation and court rules. The role also provides technical guidance and administrative support to the Judiciary, registry staff, and court clerks on civil, family, probate, adoption, and small claims matters.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent (e.g. GED)
- 2 years of recent (within the last 2 years) experience working in a legal environment; OR
- 1 year of experience working in Court Administration.
- Experience using computers and software programs (e.g. Windows, MS Word, Excel).
- Must be able to qualify for signing authority as a Deputy District Registrar within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
- Minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM) in keyboarding.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience in accounts receivable or payable in a computerized environment.
- 1 year of experience working in Court Administration.
- Experience working in Courts Civil Programs.
- Experience working in Civil Electronic Information System (CEIS).
- Signing authority as a Deputy District Registrar.
PROVISO/WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS
- Must be willing to complete relevant training programs.
- May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations. Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others.
- May be required to work flexible hours on short notice, including varied shifts.
- May be required to work overtime on short notice.
- May be required to work in other areas of Court Services Branch.
