Job Overview
The Senior Relations Officer (SRO) works in BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Provincial Operations at the provincial level. The SRO is primarily focused on developing policy, providing strategic direction, advising, leading, and assisting in the development of business-oriented natural resource management related agreements between BCTS and indigenous and non-indigenous communities and businesses; community outreach and rural communications activities; and developing policy, providing strategic direction, and providing advice to BCTS staff respecting indigenous relations affecting or relating to BCTS. Given the nature of this work, the SRO will be called upon to liaise with staff within and external to Ministry of Forests (FOR), including BCTS Business Areas, and government (e.g., Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Ministry of Finance, First Nations, communities, and related associations etc.), as well as provide sound strategic and practical advice and support to BCTS staff and executive.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest science, forest ecology, forest engineering, natural resource management, or other related area, or a diploma in forestry.
•    Experience providing services in accordance with established standards of professional ethics and conduct.
•    Five (5) years of experience in one or more of: strategic policy, program development, First Nations relations and negotiations, and development of business relations and the negotiation of agreements.
•    Experience in successfully negotiating/mediating solutions in the natural resource sector.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
•    A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:  
•    Experience preparing written briefing materials, reports and correspondence for executive and senior management levels of ministries and organizations or elected members of government (e.g., treasury board and cabinet submissions, ministerial response letters, information notes, decision notes, analyses and recommendations etc.).
•    Experience planning, developing and implementing natural resource sector legislation, regulation and policies.
•    Experience preparing instructional, educational or other communication materials such as advisory bulletins, standard operating procedures, or training materials.
•    More than five (5) years of experience in one or more of: strategic policy, program development, First Nations relations and negotiations, and development of business relations and the negotiation.

Willingness Statements 
•    Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
•    Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and/or watercraft.
•    Must be willing to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until February 25, 2028. This position may be extended or become permanent.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
