The Role:
This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys combining technical expertise with field-based problem solving and is energized by working in remote and challenging environments. You will lead and support road design, construction, inspections, geotechnical assessments, and deactivation projects across BC's resource road network, often in terrain that requires equal measures of sound engineering judgement, adaptability, and self-reliance. This work carries significant responsibility, directly influencing public and worker safety, environmental outcomes, and the long-term resilience of critical infrastructure. With a high degree of professional autonomy, you'll be trusted to make defensible decisions, provide expert advice, and navigate complex challenges, both in the office and in the backcountry.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

• Degree in Geological/Geotechnical/Civil/Forest engineering or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
• Fiver (5) years of recent (within the last seven (7) years) related engineering experience in geological or geotechnical engineering for infrastructure planning, design and/or construction projects and geohazard risk assessments. 
• Field experience monitoring engineering practices, WorkSafeBC and contract compliance; this includes professional responsibility for engineering designs and being the professional of record on construction projects.
• BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

Preference may be given to those who have:

• Five (5) or more years of recent (within the last seven (7) years) engineering experience related to the Natural Resource Sector; and/or,
• Specific experience related to rockfall mechanics, terrain stability assessments, landslide analysis, risk analysis, and/or retaining wall design and construction.

Provisos:

• Must be willing and able to work in adverse outdoor conditions and terrain.
• Meet safety standards of WorkSafeBC.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based out of one of the following locations: Campbell River, Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Port McNeill, Powell River, or Squamish.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
