Description
The Team
The Southeast Fire Centre Operations (Response) team is an established, highly skilled group dedicated to supporting safe, effective, and consistent wildfire response operations across British Columbia. The Senior Wildfire Officer - Operations will lead a team of 18 staff, including five direct reports, and collaborate with regional, provincial, and external emergency response partners to improve wildfire response practices, programs, and technology while helping deliver important provincial and local initiatives.
The Role
As the Senior Wildfire Officer - Operations, you will lead a team of approximately 18 staff and oversee key regional wildfire response programs, ensuring personnel, systems, and partnerships are ready to support safe and effective wildfire operations. Working closely with First Nations, local governments, emergency management partners, and response agencies, you will help safeguard responders, communities, infrastructure, and natural resources while fostering collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement across the Southeast Fire Centre.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management, or equivalent knowledge plus 3 years recent related experience; or
- Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management or equivalent knowledge plus 5 years recent related experience; or
- Grade 12 plus 7 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience; and
- Related experience is defined as operations management or other disciplines related to natural resource management.
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience in program and/or project management.
- Demonstrated experience working on land and resource management issues.
- Experience with and proficient in the usage of the incident command system(ICS), understanding emergency response operations, and preferably have RWCO or equivalent regional emergency coordination experience.
- Valid Class 5 driver licence.
Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of, or all, the following:
- Experience administering budgets.
- Experience in wildland emergency management
- Have senior Fireline Certification (ex. Type 2 or higher).
- Minimum of 2 years/seasons of recent Regional Emergency Response coordination.

- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.

- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
