Team:
The Skeena Ecosystems Section is an established team of eight biologists and senior biologists, supported by auxiliary and contract technical staff, who provide scientific expertise to guide government decisions related to resource management, First Nations reconciliation, and conservation. Team members work closely with foresters, planners, permitting staff, forest licensees, First Nations, and other stakeholders to help achieve resilient ecosystems and habitat management outcomes that support sustainable populations of fish, wildlife, and species at risk.

The Role:
The Senior Conservation Planning Biologist leads the development of creative strategic solutions to complex conservation biology and resource development issues. The position bridges environmental, social, and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance caribou recovery in partnership with First Nations and stakeholders. The position deals with complex natural resource issues requiring expertise, problem solving, and developing lasting relationships with First Nations and interested parties. Participation in Land Use Planning Tables, Major Project Working Groups, conservation planning, and referral reviews
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment. (Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the CAB. Confirmation of registration / eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.)
- Undergraduate Degree in a planning-related field (e.g., natural resource planning or conservation planning) plus a minimum of three (3) years’ related experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and five (5) years of related experience* may be considered.
*Related experience must include:
- Experience in natural resource planning or systematic conservation planning.
- Experience building collaborative relationships with First Nations.
- Experience in managing project teams and/or leading a major project or a component of a major project or regional initiative, including identifying deliverables, developing project requirements, contract negotiation, performance management.
- Experience with engagement and liaison practices, including building and maintaining relationships with internal and/or external interested parties, including around contentious issues and conflict situations.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Eligible for (within 6 months of employment) or possessing a Registered Professional Planner designation and/ or Project Management Professional Certificate.
- Experience leading engagement and consultation, including strategic planning for capacity considerations.
- Experience in conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
- Experience providing advice and recommendations to senior level management, and/or internal and/or external interested parties.
- Experience applying project management methodology and principles to projects.
- Experience managing for caribou conservation in the context of resource development and major project reviews.
- Experience with caribou ecology, habitat management, and recovery.
Willingness Statements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
- Must be willing to fly in planes and helicopters.
- Must be willing to travel throughout the province as needed.

About this Position:
There are two (2) full time permanent positions available.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
