Team
The Information Systems Branch provides leadership and support for information management and technology services across the Justice and Public Safety Sector. It delivers a range of services, including client support, IT security, operations, and strategic initiatives, to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with business needs.
Role
The Database Administrator is responsible for keeping databases secure, stable, and running efficiently. This includes managing daily tasks like performance monitoring, backups, and updates, as well as supporting applications and systems. The role also involves working with both technical and non-technical teams to help deliver and maintain services that meet client needs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Degree or Diploma in computer science, computer engineering or a related discipline AND a minimum of 3 years of recent, related experience;* OR
- Equivalent education and training; and a minimum of 5 years of recent, related experience*
Experience *Recent, related experience must include:
- Providing database management and advisory services (e.g. related to database application design, packaging, delivery and migration) in a large, complex IT environment
- Performing day-to-day Oracle** database operations including: enforcing and implementing security best practices, monitoring performance, provisioning database resources, performing backups and planning/implementing patches and upgrades (e.g. using **Oracle Backup and Recovery procedures; and RMAN and Datapump methodologies)
- Performing **Oracle database performance troubleshooting and tuning
- Developing UNIX/Linux shell scripts for DBA tasks
Preference statement(s)
- Experience with other database technologies, such as SQL Server and Postgres
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- Must be willing and able to work outside traditional business hours and provide on call support
- Must be able to successfully complete enhanced security screening checks as required by ISB
