Job Overview
Reporting to a section head or excluded manager and working in a variety of settings, the Authorizations Specialist provides senior technical advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for the Natural Resource Sector.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource management field and five (5) years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in a natural resource management field and seven ( 7) years related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in a natural resource management field and eight (8) years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence.

Related Experience must include the following:

  • Experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts in natural resource management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Natural Resource authorizations.
  • Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions with stakeholders and partners in natural resource management.
  • Experience supervising and developing technical and/or professional staff in resource management.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and partners in natural resource management.

Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or related designation with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff; and/or,
  • Experience working with First Nations partners.
  • Experience with permitting and forest tenure authorizations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Willing and able to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile).

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
