The Team
The Treaty Relations and Implementation Branch (TRI) leads the Province’s work to implement modern treaties and support strong, long-term government-to-government relationships with treaty partners throughout British Columbia. This established and collaborative team works closely with Indigenous, federal, provincial, and local government partners to help fulfill treaty commitments, advance reconciliation, and support the effective implementation of one of the highest forms of reconciliation through modern treaties.

The Role
The Treaty Relations & Implementation Coordinator leads key projects that support the implementation of modern treaties and related agreements, providing analysis, coordination, and strategic advice on complex policy and program matters. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of policy, relationship-building, and reconciliation, helping to strengthen partnerships, support government commitments, and contribute to meaningful outcomes for Indigenous Peoples and communities across British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in indigenous studies, resource management, dispute resolution, law, geography, urban land economics, international studies, and/or public administration, or a related discipline and a minimum of three (3) years in each *related experience; OR 
  • A Diploma in indigenous studies, resource management, dispute resolution, law, geography, urban land economics, international studies, and/or public administration, or a related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years in each *related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination or education, training and experience may be considered.
     

Experience must include a combination of the following:

  • Experience working in a legislative, regulatory, and/or policy environment.
  • Experience with project management tools, techniques and tracking systems.
  • Experience in working on multiple projects concurrently or leading a sub-component of a major project.
  • Experience in interest-based negotiations or dispute resolution processes.


Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate one or more of the following: 

  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use including Crown Land Management, resource management, and social or economic development issues.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation offices:  Victoria, Nanaimo, Surrey, Smithers, Kamloops, Cranbrook, Prince George, Fort. St. John, Williams Lake.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
