This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a LSO 2 base position

Job Overview
To provide professional advisory services to a program area in the natural resource sector. The primary role of the Stewardship Forester includes Resource Monitoring, Silviculture, Strategic Operational Planning, Timber Supply Reviews, Land Based Investment Delivery and Forest Health.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the Association of BC Forest Professionals.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (FPBC).  Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership, or to complete registration within six (6) months of employment. 
  • Experience in consulting with partners in natural resource management.
  • Recent (within the past 3 years) experience related to First Nations consultation, collaboration and relationship building in British Columbia.


Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following

  • Experience writing and/or reviewing Forest Stewardship Plans. 
  • Experience with geospatial analysis and data.
  • Experience with Regional Land Use Planning Processes in the context of natural resource management in BC. 


Willingness statements or provisos

  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • Must have a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forests offices: Burns Lake, Smithers, Terrace. 
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
