Description

The Team
The Social Sector team is an established and collaborative group consisting of the Manager and 5–6 Financial Accountants who work closely with ministries, Treasury Board, the Office of the Auditor General, government reporting entities, and other parties across government. The team plays an important role in developing and overseeing financial reporting, accounting policies, and governance standards that support transparent and accountable public services. Team members provide expert advice and contribute to the preparation of key government financial reports and statements that help inform decision-making and public accountability.

The Role
The Manager leads the preparation, review, and publication of key financial reports for government and broader public sector organizations, helping ensure financial information is accurate, transparent, and accessible. This role provides strategic advice to senior leaders on complex accounting and reporting matters and supports consistent financial practices across sectors such as health, education, and social services. The Manager drives continuous improvement by researching accounting standards, legislation, and reporting methods, and by developing innovative solutions that strengthen corporate financial reporting systems. Working collaboratively with a diverse range of parties, the role promotes integrity, accountability, and inclusive decision-making while supporting equitable and transparent reporting that benefits all British Columbians.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Canadian professional accounting designation (i.e. CPA).
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively more senior professional accounting experience in all of the following:
    • Analyzing and preparing consolidated financial statements;
    • Analyzing and presenting recommendations on complex proposals;
    • Developing transaction recording and reporting techniques and applications;
    • Providing direction and advice to clients on a variety of financial and accounting issues;
    • Developing practice guidance for interpreting, applying and implementing new accounting standards and policies.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and training financial personnel.
