Description


The Team:
The Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District Office is a busy, collaborative, welcoming team dedicated to serving Sunshine Coast communities with professionalism and care. Our responsibility to steward provincial Crown land and sustainably manage forest and related land-based resources is directly linked to regional business plan priorities.

The Role:
In this role, you will provide technical expertise and advice to others on your team, with a strong focus on collaboration with the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) and regional Forests’ staff at the interface of Land Act and forestry activities. You will play a lead role in the transition of log handling permitting and management from WLRS to Forests; this three-year process is set to begin in 2026 in the Coast Region. You may also have an opportunity to broaden your natural resource experience by supporting other program areas within the Sunshine Coast District Office on an as needed basis.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in natural resource management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence.

Related Experience may include:

  • Experience working in natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with partners in natural resource management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.

Preference may be given to those with:

  • One (1) or more years of experience in log handling authorizations, Land Act tenures, forest tenure administration, forest road engineering, and/or forestry operations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Powell River.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to one (1) day at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
This position requires periodic travel throughout the district and region to perform fieldwork, sometimes to remote locations accessible only by air or boat, including walking in rough, isolated terrain.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Powell River.
