Description

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization.  Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team:
The BCTS – Kootenay Business Area (TKO) team is an established group of dedicated professionals working across BC Timber Sales in the Southern Interior to deliver safe, sustainable forest stewardship and support a strong, competitive forest sector. As the Timber Sales Manager, you will work alongside three Managers, a diverse team of staff, and colleagues across BCTS, regional offices, and headquarters to provide leadership that delivers meaningful results for British Columbians. The Role:
As the Timber Sales Manager, you will provide leadership that helps shape the future of sustainable forest management in the Southern Interior while fostering a safe, respectful, and high-performing workplace where people can thrive. You will lead the delivery of forest stewardship, timber development, and business operations, ensuring legislative requirements are met and that public forest resources are managed responsibly to benefit communities across British Columbia. Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
  • University degree or diploma in a field related to Forestry or Resource Management 
  • Five years of program experience (e.g. BCTS or other FLNRORD) or ten years operational forestry experience (e.g. industry licensee or consultant).
  • Experience developing, managing and delivering resource management programs.
  • Significant management experience, preferably in a senior manager position including business and organizational planning.
  • Experience dealing with politically sensitive and provincially significant issues and with developing policy, procedures and corporate practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading large groups of employees in multi- functional areas
  • Experience in strategic business planning, procurement and financial management.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and issues management experience.
  • Experience leading and coaching diverse teams

Preference my be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:

  • 3 years of experience supervising, leading and mentoring staff
  • 3 years of experience in a management capacity including business and organizational planning.
  • 3 years of experience in a management capacity dealing with politically sensitive and/or provincially significant issues.
  • 2 years experience negotiating and resolving conflicts resulting from statutory and/or resource authorizations.
  • 2 years of experience with management of financial resources or major projects.

Provisos

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.

Flexible work options may be available; successful candidate can work up a number days a week remotely subject to an approved telework agreement.
