Job Overview
The Forest Landscape Planning (FLP) Branch is accountable for leading a new provincial FLP program, including the development of provincial policy, guidance and communication materials, and the management of FLP modelling, analysis and data management requirements. The FLP Coordinator has a vital role in providing advice and guidance to planning tables on provincial regulations, policy, guidance and decision support tools related to FLP. This position is also accountable for delivering resource modelling and analysis needs for FLP tables, and providing advice and support in the design and delivery of modelling scenarios, and in the interpretation of modelling results. The FLP Coordinator conducts analysis, performs program planning and provides advice and recommendations to enhance the FLP regulatory regime and advance the development of effective FLP direction to support sustainable forest management.
The FLP Coordinator works in close collaboration with a wide range of internal and external resource management professionals, agencies, stakeholders, community representatives and First Nations to collaborate on aspects of FLP development and advance best practices in resource management.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Forestry or allied field and a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the past five (5) years) related experience.
Recent, related experience must include:
- Experience writing a variety of technical documents and correspondence.
- Experience in reviewing, interpretating and synthesizing findings from the results of forest estate models or ecological models.
- Experience presenting materials to a variety of internal and external audiences.
- Experience directly engaging or consulting with representatives of Indigenous communities.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in BC with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Preference may be given to those with one (1) or both of the following:
- Experience providing direction for modelling and/or managing modelling projects.
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing forest stewardship plans, or sustainable forest management plans.
Additional requirements:
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence, or equivalent.
- Province-wide overnight travel to remote locations is a requirement of this position.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available.
This position can be based in one of the following locations: Kamloops, Nanaimo, Nelson, Prince George, Smithers, Victoria, or Williams Lake; other locations may be considered.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work two (2) or more days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
