The Team
The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) is here to help citizens who may be incapable, are under the age of 19 or who are deceased.

The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) has the mandate to:

     -    Protect the legal and financial interests of children under the age of 19 years
     -    Protect the legal, financial, personal and health care interests of adults who need help with decision-making
     -    Administer estates of deceased persons and missing persons

The PGT is a corporation sole which is a legal structure with one person responsible for overall service delivery instead of a board of directors. That person is called the Public Guardian and Trustee. The PGT is independent of government when making decisions on behalf of clients. The Greater Vancouver Regional Office, Client Services Team, Services to Adults division, is a team of 26 staff. There are nine case managers who work directly with others, including Financial Analysts, Regional Financial Officers, and Administrative Assistants. They also work closely with other departments in the organization to deliver critical services on behalf of our clients, to safeguard their financial and legal interests. The team is known for working collaboratively with each other and our service partners, being client centered and flexible. 

The Role
The Case Manager provides a wide range of individualized services to vulnerable adults who need support managing personal, health, financial, or legal matters. Responsibilities include ensuring assets are protected, preventing financial abuse, and supporting clients daily needs. The work has a direct and meaningful impact on individuals who may be affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, or degenerative conditions such as dementia. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Work. Master’s preferred. Degrees in social sciences discipline may be considered (e.g. psychology, sociology, gerontology, or related field)
  • Minimum of three years of progressive and recent related experience working in a setting oriented towards providing services to people with disabilities, a mental illness, developmental disability, traumatic brain injury or degenerative conditions affecting brain functions (e.g. dementia)
  • Experience in case management to effectively and independently manage a complex caseload
  • A valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Self-identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
  • Have experience in financial case management.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until March 31, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.  
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
