Description

The Team
Led by the team leader, the team is a close-knit and collaborative group of child protection workers, child, youth and family support worker(s), and social program officer assistant(s). The team works alongside other internal ministry service delivery teams and local agencies to provide support throughout the Greater Victoria area including the communities of Victoria, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich Peninsula, Colwood, West Shore and Sooke. Team members are dedicated and passion in supporting the safety and well-being of children, youth and families in the community, with family-centered practice at the heart of their work.

The Role
The team leader role offers the opportunity to lead, coach and support a dedicated team while building strong relationships with community partners to improve outcomes for children, youth and families. As a member of an experienced group of team leaders across the Greater Victoria area, you will have opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge and learn from colleagues, ensuring you are supporting while building capacity throughout the region. This is a rewarding role for an experienced child protection worker with supervisory experience who wishes to contribute in a leadership role.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • At least 2 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.


2. Expanded Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience and at least 2 years of job-specific work experience OR At least 3 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.


Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing. 

Additional Requirement(s):

  • Currently holds or immediately eligible for full delegation (C6) under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Three (3) months or more of continuous experience supervising a team of child protection workers.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
This competition is geographically restricted to Victoria.
This position may be required to work out of Ministry offices in the Greater Victoria Area, including Victoria, Saanich, Colwood, Langford, and Saanichton.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
