Job Overview
The Legislation and Policy Analyst is responsible for the research, development, and processing of legislation and policy through the required stages and coordinate the implementation of new legislation/regulations/orders. This position involves working with colleagues across the ministry and other ministries and is responsible for preparing various forms of government briefing materials and instructing Legislative Counsel in the drafting of legislation.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    Undergraduate Degree, preferably in law, public administration, public policy or a natural resource management field (e.g. forestry, environmental sciences, biology, land management) plus at least 1-year related experience; OR
•    An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Related experience may include a combination of at least two of the following:
•    Demonstrated practical government or comparable public sector experience preferably associated with natural resource management, developing, or assisting in the development of, legislation (e.g. bills, regulations, orders in council, ministerial orders) and/or policy.
•    Experience gathering, verifying, synthesizing, analysing data and information to support the development of legislation and/or policy.
•    Experience preparing complex legislation-related documents (e.g. drafting instructions, requests for legislation, section notes, Cabinet Submissions, briefing notes).
•    Experience establishing, building, and maintaining collaborative working relationships with stakeholders for the purposes of defining and developing policy or legislation.
