Job Overview
Reporting to a section head or excluded manager and working in a variety of settings, the Licensed Authorizations Officer provides professional advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for the Natural Resource Sector.
This position administers Crown land authorizations under the Land Act, providing expert advice and making decisions on land tenure applications, including leases, licences, rights-of-way, and permits. The position assesses competing land use interests, coordinates Indigenous and stakeholder engagement, and ensures Crown land dispositions align with provincial legislation, policy, stewardship objectives, and reconciliation commitments.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
Related Experience may include:
- Experience working in natural resource management.
- Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
- Experience in consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts in natural resource management.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements:
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), Registered Professional Agrologist (PAg) with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA), Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Note: “Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Preference may be given to those with the following:
- Experience working with the Land Act; and/or,
- Experience in supervising, leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
- Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
- May be required to operate field equipment (i.e., quad, snowmobile).

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available.
This position can be located in any of the Natural Resource Sector North Area offices. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the North Area.
