Job Overview
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Policy and Legislation leads and ensures the development and implementation of provincial road safety policies, regulations and legislative initiatives which meet the needs of the core functions of RoadSafetyBC. The Director plays a leadership role in the Branch, providing advice and guidance to Branch staff, Branch executive, the Deputy Minister, and Minister. The position has the confidence of the Ministry’s executive, the Ministry’s corporate policy office and peers across government.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- University degree in a relevant discipline such as social sciences, law, public administration or business administration and a minimum of three (3) years related experience including assessing complex issues, developing options/recommendations for senior management and leading decision-making processes and managing/leading major projects in a multi project environment; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and five (5) years of related experience including assessing complex issues, developing options /recommendations for senior management and leading decision-making processes and managing /leading major projects in a multi- project environment.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in each of the following:
- Experience providing strategic advice to executive, Ministers, and Cabinet Committees on complex, multi-faceted policy and legislation issues, including those of a sensitive nature.
- Experience leading legislative and Cabinet processes.
- Experience developing and drafting policy and partner consultation processes.
- Experience in supervising, leading, and motivating staff and/or teams, including performance planning and management.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Additional years of experience leading and developing policy and legislation.
- Experience working in the road safety sector.
- Two 2 years’ experience leading/engaging with FPT, Indigenous, and Municipal partners, and public consultation/engagement.
