Description

This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a Legal Counsel 2 base position.

Job Overview
The Senior Claims Examiner/Legal Counsel manages and directs contract counsel in the conduct of litigation and is responsible for the provision of sound legal advice for clientele of the Risk Management Branch (RMB), and defends Branch clientele against civil liability both at the Provincial and Supreme Court levels of court (does not include the ministries of government).

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A degree from law school of recognized standing and membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of B.C.
  • Six years of call to the Bar (admission to practice) in British Columbia.  Experience gained in another jurisdiction, or in a directly related field, may be considered.
  • Background as a legal generalist. 
  • Five years’ experience in litigation and in providing advice and preparing opinions on a variety of complex legal problems. 
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in the conduct of litigation, particularly in the areas of medical malpractice and school law, in both the Provincial and Supreme Court levels of court

This is a temporary opportunity until September 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
