About the BCLDB:

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retails brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

LDB’s Information Technology (IT) team consists of seven competency areas: Customer Experience, Infrastructure & Operations (I&O), Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, Software Services, Data Services, and IT Program Governance. Currently five divisions managed by IT Directors collectively are responsible for all of the seven competency areas to deliver the IT mandate of supporting LDB’s corporate and business operations and enabling future needs and initiatives.

At present, the IT team consists of more than 200+ full-time employees and includes a sourcing strategy to leverage external expertise to ensure the integrated IT team continues to deliver LDB’s strategic initiatives timely and of high quality.   

The IT department of the LDB is responsible for the entire computing infrastructure for all of the 230+ BCLIQUOR stores, BC Cannabis Stores as well as LDB’s head office in Burnaby and four Warehouse/Distribution Centres including Delta, Kamloops, Richmond, and Victoria. The IT department also manages three data centres located in Burnaby, Delta, and Kamloops.

About this role:

The Senior Database Administrator (Sr. DBA) is responsible to lead the design, development, and implementation of LDB database and application systems (such as Oracle ERP ecosystem application, Oracle databases, MS SQL Server databases, Postgress SQL databases). The Senior Database Administrator provides expert guidance to LDB staff and project teams on database application design, administer deployment tool sets, and consult with software vendors for troubleshooting. The Senior Database Administrator develops and implements standards for database administration and deployment, research new infrastructure software, and ensure data security and compliance.

Working conditions include the ability to work flexible hours to support business operating hours (24x7) during peak periods, weekends and holidays.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Information Technology or related field and minimum three (3) years of recent, related experience*.

*Recent, related experience must have occurred within the last six (6) years and must include the following:

  • Experience managing complex projects.
  • Experience developing policy and standards documents.
  • Experience with Oracle enterprise database administration and application.
  • Experience in modelling, process modelling, and/or business area analysis techniques.

Preference may be given to those candidates with any of the following:

  • Postgres databases on premises and in Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
  • Experience with WildFly application server.
