Description
The Team
The Central Services Group, Legal Services Branch, Ministry of Attorney General provides specialized legal services to key ministries and areas within government that provide centralized services to the rest of government. The diverse subject areas of legal practice within the Central Services Group include freedom of information and privacy, corporate finance and securities, and commercial, corporate and transactional services in the areas of procurement, real property, construction, information management / information technology, intellectual property and trade.
The Role
The Legal Office Manager plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Central Services Group (Legal Services Branch / Ministry of Attorney General) (the “Group”)by coordinating the delivery of administrative, financial, records management and confidential human resource functions. Working in a fast-paced legal environment, this role provides leadership, guidance and support to the Group, including direct supervision of legal assistants, while working collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external partners to ensure efficient and professional service delivery. The Legal Office Manager is required to perform the duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision, maintaining confidentiality and using discretion when addressing sensitive issues. The position values strong communication, teamwork, adaptability and inclusive leadership to support diverse teams and evolving needs across different office environments.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- A legal assistant certificate from a recognized institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a legal environment may be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working as a Legal Assistant (or equivalent).
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Secondary school graduation, plus a legal assistant certificate/diploma from a recognized institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a legal office environment.
- More than 2 years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working as a Legal Assistant (or equivalent).
- A minimum of 1 year of human resources experience, including interpreting and advising on policy, recruitment, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee relations and performance management.
- Experience in leading teams or supervising staff, which may, include allocation of work, training, mentorship, performance management of direct reports or peer to peer training.
- Experience in the management of the provision of legal administrative support services, coordinating overall workflow and developing options to ensure the delivery of work product in a demanding office environment with shifting priorities.
- Recent experience (within the last 18 months) working for the Ministry of Attorney General.
