Job Overview
Acting as the business area technical and subject matter expert, the Biometric and Report Officer is responsible for performing biostatistical analysis of wildlife data for branch for Branch and regional staff, other government agencies and the public. This position provides scientific and technical expertise respecting the development of province-wide systems and data standards required for issues management and provincial wildlife research, monitoring and reporting.   In collaboration with colleagues, this position is responsible for collecting, analyzing, editing and quality assuring large multifaceted datasets comprised of recreational and commercial hunting and angling data. The position develops complex queries and runs various technical processes to accurately extract and report data, ensure data integrity, and distributes results through various government agencies and to the public.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • University degree in biology, statistics, and/or related natural resource applied science and a minimum of three (3) years of recent, related experience*, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and recent, related experience* may be considered.
  • Specialization in natural resource management is preferred.

*Recent (within the last 5 years), related experience:

  • Collection, analysis, and summarization of biological data using biostatistical analysis methods.
  • Managing and using relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Access) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ESRI software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
  • Writing computer/statistical code and participating in systems development.
  • Utilizing MS Access, SQL, R, Power BI, Oracle and other data management software.
  • Working effectively with stakeholders, client groups, partner agencies, and senior management.
  • Leading data collection programs or projects.

Professional Designation Requirement:

  • You must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Biologist (RPBio) with the BC College of Applied Biologists (CAB). Note: "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
