The Team
This team serves as a trusted advisor to the Ministry of Health on the recovery of health care costs associated with personal injuries caused by third-party negligence or misconduct. The team also plays a critical role advising the Ministry of Health on audit and recovery of overpayments made to medical and health care practitioners.
The Role
As Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice to ministry clients, assisting with policy, program, and legislation development. You'll work on complex and unique files with a supportive and collaborative team. A significant portion of your work will involve handling confidential and sensitive matters, keeping you at the forefront of legal developments. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about making a difference through their legal expertise.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Must be a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in good standing OR immediately eligible for call to the Law Society of British Columbia with between one (1) and five (5) years of call (called between 2022-2026) or between one (1) and five (5) years of relevant practice experience, as a lawyer, if called for more than five (5) years (prior to 2022).*
*To be considered for this position if you have more than 5 years of call, your materials must clearly explain how your relevant practice experience, as a lawyer, is less than your years of call.
Preference may be given to candidates with
- Recent (within last 3 years) litigation experience
- Recent (within last 3 years) experience appearing before an administrative tribunal
- Experience advising government decision makers

About this Position:
There is one (1) temporary opportunity available until February 5th, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position is subject to membership in the Professional Employees Association.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
