The Team
Accounting Operations, Financial Practices & Controls (AOFPC) is a collaborative team within the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s Financial Services Branch that provides leadership in financial governance, risk management, compliance, and internal controls. The team works closely with ministry programs, financial staff, and stakeholders to strengthen accountability, support continuous improvement, and ensure sound financial management practices across the ministry.
The Role
The Manager, Finance Practice and Controls leads a team of financial analysts responsible for financial quality assurance, risk management, compliance reviews, internal controls, and financial policy development. This is an exciting opportunity to influence ministry-wide financial governance by leading projects, providing strategic advice, supporting audits and investigations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance financial processes, systems, and accountability.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or international equivalent)
- Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through CPA Canada in order to be considered.
- Experience analyzing financial data for variances and trends and recommending remedial action.
- Minimum of 3 years of working in a financial management and governance role.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in auditing/reviewing financial practices and developing recommendations to senior management.
- Experience leading and developing diverse teams.
- Experience supervising in a union environment, including performance management reviews.
Preferences:
- Active audit planning and management experience.
- Experience in fraud prevention and detection is preferred.
- Experience managing multi-faceted projects is preferred.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Child and Family Development offices: Nanaimo, Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops
An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
