The Team
Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) Budgets and Financial Services team provides a full range of financial and procurement services to all GCPE business areas, including but not limited to budgeting, financial reporting, AP, AR, fixed asset management, procurement, purchasing and travel coordination.
The Role
The Team Lead is a senior specialist for GCPE in budgets and accounting and resides in a centralized financial services branch reporting to an Executive Director. The Team Lead provides expert advice to support financial decisions, develops financial policies, procedures and practices, prepares financial reports and briefing materials. The Team Lead will supervise a team of financial and administrative positions.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, plus 2 years of *related work experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, plus 3 years of *related work experience; OR
- Diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field, plus 4 years *related work experience; OR
- Certificate or coursework in Accounting, Finance or related field, plus 5 years *related work experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience may be considered.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience supervising staff.
*Related work experience must include some of the following:
- Experience in budget development and estimates preparation, financial planning and analysis.
- Experience in budget monitoring, chart of accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivables.
- Experience in revenues and preparation of reports for executive staff.
- Experience interpreting legislation and conducting analytical research to support budget development and evaluation.
- Experience analyzing financial data for variances and trends and recommending remedial action.
Preferences:
- Preference may be given to candidates who hold a professional accounting designation and are members of the Chartered Professional Accountants BC (CPABC).

About this Position:
This position is based in Victoria or Vancouver.
This is a temporary opportunity until February 3, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
