The Team
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) Asset Management team plays a critical role in ensuring wildfire personnel have the equipment, vehicles, facilities, and operational resources needed to safely and effectively prepare for and respond to wildfire and other natural hazard emergencies across British Columbia. Working within a Fire Centre, the team supports provincial asset, fleet, inventory, and facilities management by maintaining operational readiness, coordinating resources, monitoring contracts and inventory, and supporting consistent asset management practices across BCWS. Through collaboration with Fire Centres, Zones, provincial staff, contractors, and external partners, the team helps ensure that critical infrastructure and equipment are available, maintained, and ready for deployment when needed.
The Role
The Asset Management Assistant provides operational and administrative support for asset, fleet, inventory, and facilities management activities within a Fire Centre. The role assists with maintaining accurate inventories, monitoring fleet usage and maintenance, coordinating facility readiness and repairs, supporting procurement and contract administration, and ensuring operational bases are prepared to meet wildfire response requirements. The position also contributes to provincial asset management initiatives by collecting and reporting operational information, identifying trends, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and promoting consistent asset management practices. Working closely with internal staff, contractors, and external partners, the Asset Management Assistant helps ensure BC Wildfire Service resources remain safe, compliant, and ready to support emergency operations throughout the year, including performing assigned roles within the Incident Command System (ICS) when required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
• Grade 12 graduation; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and training may be considered; AND
• Valid Class 5 drivers licence.
Preference may be given to candidates with 1 or more of the following:
• Experience working with forklift or skid steer.
• Experience working with basic wildland firefighting equipment.
• Experience in contract and procurement management.
• Experience in facilities, assets (including inventory management), or vehicle fleet management.
• Experience creating and managing spreadsheets, and working with standard computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

• To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.

• To participate in ICS positions as assigned.
• To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
