Job Overview
The Youth Probation Officer contributes to protecting society by providing appropriate support and supervision of young persons in conflict with the law and to facilitate their rehabilitation by providing optimal opportunities for pro-social development through a youth-focused case management process. On the Burnaby Youth Justice Team this position can work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, working 4 days/week at 8.75 hours/day.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- *Human Services field includes: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology, Nursing, History, and Political Science)
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience working as either an Adult Probation Officer or a Fully Delegated Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian Jurisdiction.
- Experience in a justice, educational or social service setting that involves the supervision of young people or adults.
- Experience in a justice, educational or social service setting with counselling or conflict resolution.
Please note Level of Experience and Corresponding Classification Level Placement:
- * JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE: Experience gained working as either an Adult Probation Officer or a Fully Delegated Youth Probation Officer in a Canadian Jurisdiction.
- No job-specific experience* = Growth Series Level One
- 6-12 months job-specific experience* = Growth Series Level Two
- 1 year job-specific experience = SPO24 Full Working Level Step One
