The Team:
The South Central Regional Operations team plays a central role in overseeing mining activities across some of British Columbia's most diverse landscapes and communities. The region operates in a high-volume, fast-paced environment for mining applications, requiring timely coordination, sound decision-making, and strong collaboration. Combining technical expertise, regulatory oversight, and meaningful collaboration with Indigenous Nations, industry and other stakeholders, the team helps ensure mining projects are reviewed, permitted, and monitored in a manner that supports safety, sustainability, and public confidence.

The Role:
This Inspector of Mines – Permitting position supports mining activities throughout the South Area and is at the forefront of responsible resource development in British Columbia. Combining regulatory decision-making, field inspections, and meaningful engagement with Indigenous Nations, industry, and government partners, you will lead the review of Mines Act permit applications and help shape safe, sustainable, and well-informed outcomes. Your work will influence decisions that balance economic development with environmental stewardship, public safety, and the protection of people, lands, and natural resources.

Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

• Degree in Engineering (mining, civil, environmental), Geology, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, and three (3) years of current experience related to mineral exploration and/or mining operations; OR,
• Diploma in Mining Technology, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or a related discipline from an accredited institution and five (5) years of current experience related to mineral exploration and/or mining operations. 
• Experience in mining operations includes working in a professional or technical capacity on functioning mine sites, including aggregate, for a broad range of mining activities including exploration, access construction, mining methods and/or mine reclamation, and/or relevant provincial/federal experience in a natural resource regulatory compliance role.
• An equivalent combination of relevant education and recent, related experience may be considered.
• Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

• Current delegation of the Chief Permitting Officer or already a Statutory Decision Maker.
• Experience in a mining regulatory compliance role.
• Experience in mineral exploration.
• Experience in aggregate operations.
• Experience in making recommendations to Statutory Decision Makers for Natural Resource Authorizations.
• Experience with First Nations’ consultation processes.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent, full time positions available.
Each position can be based out of one of the following natural resource offices: 100 Mile House, Clearwater, Kamloops, Merritt, Penticton, Quesnel, Revelstoke, Vernon, or Williams Lake. Other locations may be considered.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
This position has a field work component and occasional travel may be required.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
