Job Overview
The Tax Appeals and Litigation Branch independently reviews taxpayer appeals related to assessments, denied refunds, and other tax decisions, and provides recommendations to the Minister of Finance to allow, vary, or deny appeals. The branch works with individuals, corporations, and multinational companies, handling complex legal and accounting matters while ensuring fair tax administration, taxpayer rights, compliance, and revenue protection. Appeals Officers play a key role by analyzing facts, evidence, and legislation, interacting with taxpayers and advisors, and preparing written recommendations for the minister.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in law and several years’ experience working in a legal, business, policy and/or legislative environment. Alternatively;
- a combination of a post-graduate university degree (MBA, MPA or equivalent) and several years’ experience working in a field which required knowledge of business and industry practices, legal documents and the ability to interpret legislation, or
- a combination of a university degree and extensive experience working in a field which required knowledge of business and industry practices, legal documents and the ability to interpret legislation.
- Experience researching and interpreting legislation.
- Experience analyzing complex legal, factual or business issues.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Degree in Law.
- Experience researching, interpreting and/or applying tax legislation.

There are two (2) positions available.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
