This is a restricted lateral posting open to employees who hold a BAND 5 base position

Job Overview
The Executive Director champions and enables good governance to ensure student success; based on extensive knowledge of school law and education system governance, provides expert legislative advice and analysis to support Ministry priorities. The position provides oversight for the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of a range of legislation; and provides leadership; and oversees the modernization and implementation of a K-12 Accountability Framework to ensure a stronger focus on student outcomes and to help find ways to improve the system.  The Executive Director is also responsible for workforce policy and programs for the K-12 and child care sectors.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience developing and amending legislation and preparing Treasury Board/Cabinet submissions.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience leading and supervising staff, including performance management, coaching, mentoring, and/or team development.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience briefing and providing strategic advice to Assistant Deputy Ministers (ADMs), Deputy Ministers (DMs), and/or Ministers on complex and sensitive issues.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience managing and acting as instructing clients on complex litigation.
  • Experience working in or with BC’s K-12 education system.

Flexible work options are available. This position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
