The Team
The Collaborative Planning and Decision-Making Okanagan West Kootenay Team brings together a passionate, child and family-centred group of professionals who support families, children, youth, and communities through collaborative planning, family finding, and permanency-focused practices. As part of this established regional team, you will work alongside Collaborative Planning and Decision Making (CPDM) workers and partner closely with Intake, Family Services, Guardianship, and Generalist teams to strengthen connections, support reunification efforts, and help create lasting relationships for children and youth. The Role
As a Roots Practitioner, you will help Indigenous children and youth strengthen their cultural identity, explore their heritage, and reconnect with their families, communities, and cultures. You will work closely with children, youth, families, Indigenous Elders, communities, and guardianship workers to support cultural and permanency planning, facilitate meaningful connections, and help young people access cultural supports, home communities, and traditional territories. Through this deeply rewarding work, you will make a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth by supporting belonging, identity, and lifelong connections, while fostering respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive relationships that honour diverse experiences and perspectives.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field (e.g., Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing), OR
• A minimum of 4 years or more of experience working with Indigenous families and communities.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Related Experience must include:

• Experience working with Indigenous families and communities.

Preferences:

• Experience working with Indigenous children and youth in care.
• Experience developing and/or facilitating programs/events that promote cultural understanding and or cultural teachings and awareness.
• Applicants who have Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Metis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
