The Team
The Indigenous Relations Team (IRT) is an established team of approximately 18 professionals located across the Southern Interior Region, with most team members based in Kamloops. Our work supports Indigenous relations activities for Ministry of Transportation and Transit projects, helping build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, support consultation obligations, reduce project risks, and advance reconciliation. We value collaboration, open dialogue, and a shared commitment to creating meaningful outcomes for First Nations communities and the Ministry.

The Role
This role leads Indigenous consultation and negotiations for complex transportation projects and provides expert advice on consultation strategies, policy development, and engagement with Indigenous communities. The position plays an important role in advancing reconciliation, supporting First Nations capacity-building, resolving highway tenure matters, and helping deliver transportation projects that benefit communities across the province. Ideal for someone passionate about Indigenous relations, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact for First Nations and transportation users alike.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education, with a minimum of 1 year of *related experience, OR
•    Diploma or equivalent education, with minimum of 3 years of *related experience, OR 
•    An equivalent combination of education and *related experience may be considered.

*Related experience must include the following:
•    Experience in negotiating agreements and settlements with Indigenous Communities.
•    Experience in leading consultation process with Indigenous communities.
•    Experience building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities.
•    Experience managing multiple projects and\or portions of major projects. 
•    Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, historical highway right of way, resource management, and social or economic development issues.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or both of the following:
•    Operational Experience with highway infrastructure.
•    Experience with property acquisition, contract services, and tenure related negotiations.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
