Description
The Team
The Financial Services Branch supports four ministries within the Economy Sector by providing financial planning, reporting, operations, procurement, and facilities services. The team partners closely with senior leaders to deliver sound financial management, accountability, and strategic advice that supports ministry priorities and public sector stewardship.
The Role
The Director, Financial Operations provides leadership and specialized expertise in the development, administration, and oversight of financial management and reporting systems across the Economy Sector ministries. This role works closely with ministry executives and central agencies to ensure strong financial controls, effective risk management, regulatory compliance, and transparent financial governance, while providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) recognized by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.

Five (5) or more years of experience working in progressively responsible roles in financial management, including experience managing the following activities:
- Financial Systems;
- Financial Controls and Compliance; and,
- Financial Policy, Reporting, and Procedures.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in the leadership and supervision of staff in a financial environment.
- Experience working with complex accounting issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with financial planning, management, accounting issues and budget cycles.
- Experience preparing and presenting financial information to facilitate executive decision making.
- Experience managing a team of accounting professionals.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience working with complex accounting issues in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
- Experience with government financial accounting systems, policies, and processes, including working with government central agencies in the Ministry of Finance.
- Experience with financial management issues pertaining to government structural reorganizations.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
