Description
The Team:
The Reconciliation, Strategic Partnerships, Policy & Legislation Division works with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), First Nations Leadership Council (FNLC), First Nations (FN) Communities, First Nations Support Organizations (e.g., FNESS), emergency management stakeholders from all levels of government, the private sector and non-governmental organizations to lead and coordinate emergency management planning/preparedness; response; recovery and mitigation efforts for First Nation Communities on Reserve Lands, as outlined in a ten year bilateral service agreement between EMCR and ISC.
The Role:
The Division is responsible for the management of the service agreement and its effective delivery, as well as for establishing long term vision, goals and strategies aimed at enhancing First Nation Communities capabilities and capacity to address all hazards, strengthening their disaster resilience. The Partnerships Coordinator coordinates First Nations engagement and shares information with staff and partners on the four pillars of emergency management including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or higher in a related field (eg. First Nations engagement or consultation, Public Administration, etc.) and one (1) year of related experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities; OR,
- Certificate in a related field (e.g., First Nations engagement or consultation, Public Administration, etc.) and two (2) years related experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related experience may include the following:
- Experience planning, coordinating and facilitating special events, workshops or working sessions with external partners.
- Experience developing and implementing tracking and monitoring systems.
- Experience building strong relationships and working as part of a team.
- Experience typing, formatting, and proofreading a variety of documents and materials in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,).
Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:
- Identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
- Two (2) years or more experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
- Experience conducting research and providing findings and recommendations to support program, product or service development that are culturally relevant.
- Experience in emergency management.
Willingness Statements
- Travel overnight, occasionally, and on operational deployments, up to 2 weeks, to locations anywhere in the province.
- Work on-call and extended hours during emergency activations.

About this Position:
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
This position requires full-time, in-person work.
