Description

The Team
The team will consist of two senior child protection workers reporting to a Director of Operations and Team Leader overseeing an incident response team of up to 7 assigned social work staff.  The two senior workers will be assigned to a Local Service Area (LSA) in the North Fraser Service Delivery Area (SDA) to respond to child welfare concerns of children/youth. They will support the identified LSA incident team by a mentorship role with undelegated staff progressing through the Delegated Assessment Tool towards full delegation. The two senior child protection workers will be assigned to a LSA team where mentorship and support is required and may move between teams in the SDA.

The Role
Reporting to the LSA Director of Operations and Team Leader, the Senior Child Protection Worker provides clinical advice and direction to child protection workers within an identified geographic area in their day to day work with incidents and cases.  Through hands on mentoring, the Senior Child Protection Worker is responsible for the development of child protection staff, including those within the growth series, through day to day guidance and mentorship on case practice. This position will apply enhanced understanding and knowledge of child protection practice and theory, case management practices and the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) to assist in the planning and coordination of services to families and children.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

2. Expanded Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Additional Experience Requirements:

  • Experience working with and planning for children and youth in a child and family service agency that provides legislated services (child protection, guardianship, resources, family support or adoption). This may include progressive responsibility in legislated child and family services in an agency and/or managing/supervising a team of employees who work in child and family services.
  • Experience mentoring and leading staff.
  • Experience in a child protection supervisory role.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in child welfare providing legislated services under the CFCSA.

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA
  • Currently C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Five years or more years experience in direct child protection practice providing legislated services under the Child Family and Community Services Act

  • Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but have completed all required courses and are able to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements.  Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
Two (2) temporary positions available until 10/31/2027. These positions may be extended or become permanent. 
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
