The Team
The Claims and Litigation Team is an established, close-knit group of 12 professionals, including legal counsel, claims examiners, support staff, and leadership, who work collaboratively to manage complex claims across a variety of litigation areas. The team partners with clients such as health authorities, school districts, universities, colleges, and social service providers, delivering meaningful work that supports the public sector. The Role
This role provides legal advice and litigation management services to support clients of the Risk Management Branch. The Senior Claims Examiner/Legal Counsel oversees contract counsel, defends clients in civil liability matters at the Provincial and Supreme Court levels, and helps ensure fair, informed, and legally sound decision-making. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A degree from law school of recognized standing and membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of B.C.
  • Six years of call to the Bar (admission to practice) in British Columbia.  Experience gained in another jurisdiction, or in a directly related field, may be considered.
  • Background as a legal generalist. 
  • Five years’ experience in litigation and in providing advice and preparing opinions on a variety of complex legal problems. 
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in the conduct of litigation, particularly in the areas of medical malpractice and school law, in both the Provincial and Supreme Court levels of court

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until September 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
