The Role
The District Operations Technician maintains and monitors a geographical location, ministry infrastructure inventory systems and supports road and bridge maintenance programs, contractors, special projects, and resource management. The role also manages district sign programs, works with various ministry teams and partners, provides training, problem solving, and public information services. It’s a dynamic position requiring strong coordination, communication, and partner management skills.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

●    Bachelors Degree from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of BC) in a related field of study such as civil or structural engineering, construction technology, surveying, geology, geography resource management or project management and a minimum of one (1) year related experience; OR
●    Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologist and Technicians of BC) in a related field of study such as civil or structural engineering, construction technology, surveying, geology, geography resource management or project management and a minimum of two (2) years related experience; OR
●    Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 3 years related experience; OR
●    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
●   Must hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Related experience may include:
●    Civil engineering, contract management, and/or bridge maintenance or construction, project management, traffic management or highways experience.

Preference may be given to applicants:
●    With transportation and infrastructure related experience.
●    Who completed the Road Area Manager, BCIT program.
●    Who have 4/6 courses (one course must be AMRC 2016 MOT Highway Maintenance Agreement) from the Road Area Manager, BCIT program.
●    With DFAA (minimum one event) or working in a highways environment.

Willingness Statements/ Provisos:
●    Depending on the position, must be willing and able to work outside (including drive and travel) in all weather conditions during periods of inclement weather and/or rough terrain, including ascending or descending structures, working in active construction sites, rough terrain, around traffic and construction equipment.
●    Depending on the position, must be willing and able to work outside of normal business hours as well as some public speaking.
●    May use Emergency Traffic Control & First Aid (Level 1)
●    May require Avalanche Safety for Transportation & Industry – Level 1 Training
●    May use avalanche beacons / rescue equipment
●    May use emergency response equipment
●    Specialized Ministry software such as CPS, Drive BC, & CHRIS.
●    Willing and able to work in all kinds of weather and road conditions and emergency situations affecting the Highway System.
●    Working alone
●    May be on scene for Motor Vehicle Incidents
●    May be on site for avalanches, mudslides, flooding, etc.

About this Position:
This position is based out of Cranbrook.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home one day a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
