The Team
Child Care Modelling and Analytics is an established team that provides the research, evidence, forecasting, and analytical expertise needed to support government and ministry priorities for British Columbia’s child care system. Comprised of economists and research professionals from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, the team collaborates closely with policy, operations, executive leadership, and analytical partners across government to deliver trusted insights, reporting, and forecasts that inform evidence-based decision making on a key government priority.
The Role
As Director, Child Care Modelling and Analytics, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering the full data life-cycle from surveys to high-quality economic and statistical analysis to inform policy development, program evaluation, and strategic decision making. This impactful leadership role oversees the development of innovative analytical products and reporting that provide the ministry, government partners, and the public with timely and reliable information on the performance and progress of provincial child care initiatives, while helping shape the future direction of the child care system in British Columbia.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science or related field and 3 years of related experience*; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field and 4 years of related experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
*Related experience must include:
- Experience developing strategies, options and methodologies to conduct data analysis, manipulation and interpretation including oversight of methods and data quality assurance.
- Experience with and ability to lead the analysis of complex interdependent administrative data sets.
- Experience with data modelling, process modelling, and/or business area analysis techniques.
- Experience in developing, applying, and utilizing statistical methods to further organizational analytic capabilities.
- Experience with principles of data governance and data management.
- Experience with project and program evaluation.
- Experience leading and supervising staff including developing and evaluating performance goals (examples include coaching, team building, and mentoring).
- Experience collaborating with partners and/or rightsholders to develop and enhance evaluation and/or analytic frameworks.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience with analytical programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R).
- Data warehouse enhancement / upgrading experience.

This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
