Description
The Team:
Prevention and Loss Management Services Branch (PLMS) is dedicated to promoting the integrity of, and maintaining public confidence in, the BC Employment and Assistance Program. PLMS leads program integrity initiatives for the division and ministry including delivering prevention, loss management, service quality, and enforcement programs through a client centric lens. The branch is responsible for promoting service quality while also mitigating financial loss, detecting and preventing under-reporting and fraud, and investigating serious criminal offences.
The Role:
The Data Analyst is responsible for providing direct support to small to medium scale programs/projects which contribute towards the improvement of ministry operations, procedures and evaluation processes. Reporting to the Senior Data Scientist and Data Architect, the Data Analyst reviews and verifies accuracy of data from a variety of information streams to determine trends, patterns and to generate insight for the work unit and recommendations for improving data acquisition processes to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in a Data Science, Computer Science, GIS, Statistics, Mathematics, or other relevant specialty education AND One (1) year related experience; OR
- Diploma in a Data Science, Computer Science, GIS, Statistics, Mathematics, or other relevant specialty education AND Two (2) years related experience; OR
- Certificate in a Data Science, Computer Science, GIS, Statistics, Mathematics, or other relevant specialty education AND Three (3) years related experience; OR
- An equivalent education and related experience may be considered.
Related experience must include the following:
- Experience leveraging structured and unstructured data sources to conduct analysis including joining and filtering multiple data sets.
- Experience determining appropriate use of various problem structuring methods and statistical methods for sampling, distribution assessment, bias and error.
- Experience interpreting and applying advanced mathematics, scientific reasoning and statistical methods to solve problems.
- Experience creating visualizations and reports from both qualitative and quantitative data.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- One (1) or more years of experience using SQL, Python and/or R.
- Demonstrated experience in developing evidence-based fraud risk identification and prioritization models to support prevention, compliance, and loss management initiatives.
- More years of experience in one or more related areas.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available, this position may be able to work up to four days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent vacancies.
