Team
The South Coast Lands Team is a well-established group that supports core regulatory operations under the Land Act in British Columbia's South Coast Region. Comprised of 24 scientific, technical, and administrative professionals, the team works on some of the Province’s most complex natural resource challenges. As Manager, you will collaborate with partners across the Natural Resource Sector, as well as federal, municipal, and First Nations governments, helping to shape land management decisions that support the economy, environmental stewardship, recreation, and communities. The team is known for its expertise, collaboration, and passion for making a meaningful difference in natural resource management.

Job Overview
Reporting to the Director, Resource Authorizations for Coast Area, this position is accountable for Crown land authorizations under the BC Land Act for South Coast Region. The Resource Manager oversees a large team comprised of technical, administrative, and professional staff. This position is highly focused on permitting performance improvement, providing vision, strategy, and guidance to lead the South Coast Region Crown Land authorizations team towards provincial and ministry goals for permitting.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. natural resource management, biology, ecology, engineering, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, geography, or other related discipline) and a minimum of 4 years related experience; OR
•    A Master’s degree in a related field and minimum of 2 years related experience; OR
•    An acceptable combination of education or training and experience in resource management may be considered.
•    Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.

Related experience is defined as:
•    Progressive leadership and management experience related to resource management, including undertaking business process improvements, and delivering on key performance measures.
•    Experience analyzing complex information from multiple sources and making recommendations for new directions or policies, and preparing briefing documents, high level reports, and decision papers for review by others.
•    Experience developing and maintaining working relationships and resolving problems with partners and First Nations in natural resource management
•    Creatively resolving conflicts or issues involving multiple interests, and working effectively with internal and external partners.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
•    Statutory decision making experience under the Land Act.
•  
 Progressive experience in establishing priorities, allocating and managing human and fiscal resources.

Provisos:
•    May be required to work under tight deadlines on sensitive or confidential issues. 
•    May be required to interact with industry professionals, First Nations, the general public, clients, or partners with strong opinions in the course of executing regulatory responsibilities.
•    Field inspection of project sites may require, at times, travel by boat.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
