The Team
The Indigenous Agreements Branch within the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) is an established team that works closely with Indigenous Governing Bodies, First Nations, Métis and Inuit partners, federal and provincial partners, and leaders across the ministry. The Branch supports the ongoing work to uphold and advance Indigenous jurisdiction in child and family services, working collaboratively with partners to address systemic issues and develop agreements that support Indigenous communities in resuming their inherent authority over child and family services.
The Role
The role supports the Branch’s work to facilitate discussions and negotiations with Indigenous Governing Bodies and First Nations toward agreements respecting Indigenous jurisdiction over child and family services. Working closely with directors, managers, and table leads, the position provides research, analysis, policy development, briefing materials, and issues management support. The role also contributes to bilateral and trilateral negotiations, supports the resolution of service delivery and policy issues, and helps ensure that the ministry is well positioned to advance discussions while maintaining the credibility, interests, and commitments of the provincial government.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in an appropriate discipline (social sciences, law, public administration, business administration); AND a minimum of 3 years of related work experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Related years of work experience must be in each of the following:
- Experience in the development and/or application of legislation and regulation.
- Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis.
- Experience in planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments.
- Experience in writing a range of documents for senior staff, executive, and partners.
- Experience working with First Nations, and / or Indigenous organizations.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience in the development and / or analysis of legislation, regulation and policy that affects First Nations and / or Indigenous communities.
- Applicants that self-identify as Indigenous.

About this Position:
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 5 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
This is a temporary/auxiliary opportunity until February 11, 2027 . This position may be extended or become permanent.
