Description

The Team
This team leads the development of provincial transportation policies, programs, funding initiatives, and intergovernmental strategies related to public transit, active transportation, shared mobility, rural and regional transportation, passenger connectivity, and innovative transportation solutions. The Branch also oversees and supports BC Transit (Crown corporation) and TransLink to ensure it carries out their respective responsibilities and operations to ensure British Columbia has a reliable, affordable and safe public transit system.

The Role
This position leads and coordinates the development of complex, sensitive and often highly visible transit policy initiatives, projects and working groups. A key focus of the position is on transit strategies, policies and legislation relating to areas in B.C. serviced by BC Transit.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • University degree in project management, business administration, public administration, related field or equivalent and 3 years of current program and related experience OR more than 5 years of management and related industry experience may be considered.

Related experience includes a combination of the following:

  • Experience in project management and preparing and delivering a variety of proposals, reports, issue papers and presentations.
  • Experience in planning, developing and implementing significant strategic policy and/or legislative changes.
  • Experience setting priorities and developing, interpreting and working with policy that supports strategic and operational goals.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with partners and stakeholders to initiate or influence policies, programs or legislation.
  • Experience managing issues, problem solving strategically, and providing leadership and expertise, including articulating goals, gaining commitment, securing resources and accomplishing objectives, and providing advice to senior or executive management teams, internal staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing, explaining and presenting high level policy and practices clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, in language appropriate to the audience. This includes delivering presentations to senior management and external industry and community groups.
  • Experience dealing with politically sensitive and provincially significant issues, and with identifying and developing policies.
  • Experience organizing, managing, and leading diverse complex projects and teams simultaneously, and experience working with external consultants.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above. 
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
