Description

The Team
The Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) is an independent administrative tribunal dedicated to preserving British Columbia's Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) and supporting a sustainable agricultural sector. Supported by a team of technical and professional staff, the ALC works collaboratively with local governments, provincial agencies, industry stakeholders, and landowners to promote responsible land use and protect valuable agricultural land throughout the province.

The Role
As a Compliance and Enforcement Officer, you will play a key role in protecting the integrity of the ALR by investigating compliance concerns, conducting site inspections, gathering and analyzing evidence, and recommending appropriate enforcement actions. This diverse and rewarding role combines investigative work, stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and education to help ensure compliance with the Agricultural Land Commission Act and related regulations across British Columbia.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in administrative law, investigation and enforcement, criminology, resource management or a related field; OR
  • Certification in administrative law, investigation and enforcement, criminology, resource management or a related field and one (1) year of related experience.
  • Experience in by-law enforcement or inspection and/or investigation in a regulatory field.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Three (3) years experience in by-law enforcement or inspection and/or investigation in a regulatory field.
  • Compliance and enforcement training such as the Justice Institute programs, or a similar education/training institution.
  • Experience with the interpretation and application of any of the following: Agricultural Land Commission Act & regulations, Community Charter, Local Government Act, Environmental Management Act, or Farm Practices Protection Act.
  • Investigation and Enforcement Skills Certification from the Justice Institute of British Columbia

This is a temporary opportunity until April 23, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
