The Team
The Northeast Region Stewardship Team provides professional expertise and leadership to support healthy, resilient forests and sustainable natural resource management. This established team includes a Stewardship Officer and three Stewardship Foresters and works closely with First Nations, Land and Resource Specialists, Resource Managers, industry, partner agencies, and other experts, valuing collaboration, diverse perspectives, continuous learning, and respectful relationships.
The Role
As a leader on the Stewardship Team, you’ll provide strategic advice, lead complex natural resource projects, support policy and stewardship improvements, and build strong relationships with First Nations, stakeholders, industry, and partner agencies. You’ll also lead and develop a team while contributing to important decisions about forest health, ecosystem resilience, climate change adaptation, and sustainable resource management, with opportunities to shape the future of forests and communities across Northeast B.C.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource discipline (e.g. agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, or other related discipline), OR,
- A combination of education/training and experience may be considered.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence, or equivalent.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
- Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF); or, with the BC Institute of Agrologists as a Professional Agrologist.
- Note: Immediately eligible for registration” means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the registration process with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Related experience must include all of the following:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ related experience in Natural Resource Management.
- Program/project leadership and management experience related to resource or environmental management, land administration or planning, including undertaking business process improvements.
- Experience analyzing complex information from multiple sources and making recommendations for new directions or policies, and preparing briefing documents, high level reports, and decision papers for review by others.
- Experience in a multiple stakeholders and partners environment understanding perspectives, conflicts and facilitating / developing solutions.
- Experience with land management or forest management.
- Experience working in collaboration with First Nations in resource management.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Supervisory experience including successfully leading and coaching multi-disciplinary teams.
PROVISOS
- Must meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.
- Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
