The Team
Join the Policy and Legislation Branch, an established and collaborative team that plays a key role in reducing oil and gas emissions, advancing Indigenous reconciliation, and supporting responsible energy resource development in British Columbia. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position works across the branch’s policy, legislation, and programs functions, collaborating with policy and legislative analysts, economists, executives, and technical experts. As part of a seasoned team of approximately 20 professionals, you will contribute to impactful work that helps balance economic growth and energy security with environmental stewardship and the protection of First Nations rights. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex, high-profile initiatives while partnering with colleagues across the BC Public Service.

The Role
To lead the design and implementation of major and complex statistical and policy analysis projects and provide authoritative advice as a recognized economics expert, to government executive, on matters impacting strategic direction, major financial commitments and significant government priorities.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

•    A degree in Economics or closely related field such as statistics, commerce, or mathematics, or equivalent.
•    Experience conducting and leading major and complex economic studies and research projects.
•    Experience in policy analysis and policy development in a government setting.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
•    A Master’s Degree in Economics or closely related field such as statistics, commerce, or mathematics, or equivalent.
•    Experience with climate change related metrics statistical analysis
•    Experience in planning and coordinating complex climate change and/or natural resource related projects/assignments, which may include providing work direction to employees and/or consultants
•    Experience in the development of legislation, and regulation related to climate change, the natural resource sector and/or economic development.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any Natural Resource office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
