Job Overview
The Advisor, Indigenous Relations plans, leads and facilitates consultation processes with First Nations and ensures legal obligations have been met. The Advisor, Indigenous Relations reviews proposals for the use of natural resources and determines the impact on First Nations’ identified or potential traditional use areas. The Advisor, Indigenous Relations participates in negotiation of agreements on behalf of the Ministry.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in social science, public administration, natural sciences, resource management, environmental studies, geography or related discipline. OR;
- An equivalent combination of Education and experience may be considered.
- Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and/or First Nation communities.
Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:
- Who identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
- Experience facilitating First Nations consultations.
- Experience in Crown or proponent‑led consultation with First Nations.
- Experience aligning engagement with Haida principles and procedural fairness.
- Experience in supporting statutory-decision-makers in decision-making on Crown authorizations.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent, full time positions available.
These positions can be performed from multiple communities and the location of each position is negotiable.
The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; each position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above locations.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
