The Team
The Indigenous Relations, South Coast Region team is an established and collaborative group of 16 professionals dedicated to advancing Reconciliation and ensuring the Province meets its Crown obligations to Indigenous Peoples. Working closely with First Nation communities, government partners, and a wide range of stakeholders, the team supports meaningful engagement, consultation, negotiations, and policy development that help create positive outcomes for Indigenous communities. Guided by a strong culture of teamwork, respect, and inclusion, the team values diverse perspectives and works together to build lasting relationships that support equitable and informed decision-making across the region.
The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, Indigenous Relations, the position leads the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of the Crown’s duty to consult First Nations and to provide authoritative advice, interpretation and/or consultation services for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit Projects in South Coast Region. The Senior Manager supports/leads substantive negotiations, provides strategic planning advice and approaches to negotiations and formulates negotiation strategies through consultation. The incumbent is accountable for leading the initiation, negotiation, and implementation of various agreements with First Nations and collaboration with other ministries/agencies. The incumbent leads and supervises staff, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
Education:
- Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, public policy, Indigenous studies, history or a related field area and 3 years *related experience; OR
- University degree in business administration, public administration, public policy, Indigenous studies, history or a related field area and 5 years *related experience; OR
- Technical diploma in business administration, public administration, public policy, Indigenous studies, history or a related field area and 7 years *related experience; OR
- A combination of education and *related experience may be considered.
*Related Experience includes a combination of any of the following:
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in a highly intense working environment.
- Experience providing strategic Indigenous relations advice to Ministry Executive, senior government officials (or private sector equivalent) on projects/negotiations status.
- Experience leading complex multi-party negotiations in a cross-cultural setting.
- Experience dealing with politically sensitive and provincially significant issues.
- Experience in a management capacity including strategic and operational business and organizational planning and financial management.
- Experience related to First Nations consultation and relationship building.
- Experience leading and resolving complex issues with First Nations.
Provisos:
- Must have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license, and be legally able to rent a vehicle in British Columbia.
- Occasional travel, including overnight, is required.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience working on transportation related projects.
- Experience working with First Nation organizations and/or communities.
- Experience leading and oversight for programs/service.

This is a temporary opportunity until October 31, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
