The Team
The Quesnel Fire Zone is an established team of diverse professionals working together to support wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery across British Columbia. You will collaborate with office and field staff, unit crews, and wildfire professionals in a supportive, inclusive environment where every team member contributes to protecting communities and delivering an important public service.
The Role
As a Wildfire Officer, you will provide leadership and oversee the delivery of the fire management program within the Quesnel Fire Zone, helping to support wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. This role offers the opportunity to lead and collaborate with a diverse team in a fast-paced, inclusive environment while doing meaningful work that helps keep communities safe and resilient across British Columbia.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Undergraduate Degree or higher in forestry, resource management or related field, plus 2 years recent related experience; or
- Technical diploma in forestry, resource management, or related field plus 4 years recent related experience; or
- Grade 12 plus 6 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
*Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management. Minimum 3 years of demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience in program or project management.
- Demonstrated experience working on land and resource management issues.
- Valid Class 5 driver licence.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Incident Commander 3 certification or higher.
- Zone Wildfire Coordination Officer 3 certification or higher.

- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
- To keep current on emerging issues.
- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in ICS positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
- To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.

This is a temporary opportunity until February 26, 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position requires full-time, in-person work at the physical location listed.
